Preamble This puzzle is a light-hearted attempt at predicting the progress of the 2010 World Cup currently underway in South Africa. Sixteen clues, all to seven-letter words, represent the countries qualifying for the first knockout round. Solvers must select the answer for the team that progresses from each of these actual matches, remove the initial of the team 'knocked out' and form an anagram of the remaining letters. These eight words must then be entered where they will fit in the grid.
A thematic person's name and a possible description of what may transpire in the latter stages of the tournament comprise the other two unclued entries (two words each), which, should a certain team go the whole way, solvers might choose to highlight appropriately. May the best team win!
All grid entries are real words, but include some well-known proper nouns.
